There’s nothing like plotting sick burns in workplaces.
Last month, a client told me two things about her boss:
- The boss regularly complains that no one does as much as she does.
- The boss will never allow others to fully take over any project.
“This sounds like a therapy issue,” I said. “For your boss.”
“Maybe the team should pool our money and give her a therapy gift certificate.”
Then the conversation descended into all kinds of shady, passive aggressive gift ideas for bosses. Sigh! What a journey it is, to work with other PEOPLE!
As the earth continues to spin as if it’s a little dumb and very drunk, I want to encourage people in leadership positions to think of the future. Generations are coming up behind you. How are you preparing them to step into your shoes? How are you preparing to step into new opportunities?
It’s hard, I know. We all like to be needed. But the impact you could have as a leader who empowers others is SO much greater than the amount of work you, yourself, can get done. Lift your eyeballs and share the responsibility – the future is worth all our our investments.
